Is Soothie pacifier alright for an older baby?

My son loves his Soothie pacifier, but he has another we just bought at the dollar store one day (6 mo+) because it looked cute... he is 16 mo and baby #2 is due May. We tried to take him off paci earlier, (he was off bottle by 12 mo and now drinks from plastic sippy cup, learning to use straw) but he only put his fingers in his mouth instead. Paci is only used for nap/bed time/ and if we ever travel anywhere during night. I heard he'll leave it on his own, and with the new arrival I really don't want to upset him further (he is a jealous baby trust me). So should i leave him with his Soothie (its not the one for NB) or try something else?
