My homework paper is vocabulary, and it says to define and find the part of speech. whats that mean?

I have to do vocab for a book im reading, and it says "define and fin the part of speech" and then gives me a sentence with the word underlined in it and being used in the sentence. what does it want me to do in the spaces below the word??? thanks for help.
