Need help doing works cited MLA formatting?

I was igned an argumentative essay, the things is that that instructor expects us to have MLA formatting along with a works cited page. I'm really confused about this. Is the MLA formatting included on the works cited page and vice versa or no? How would I go about doing both of these? I would really appreciate a detailed explanation thanks.
